Team These Guys first came upon a group of wheelers from NY who were trying to pull one of their group’s Jeeps out from a nasty, door-high mud pit. Using a Cherokee and a Toyota pick-up strapped together just wasn’t enough. Weaver’s 2012 Rubicon with the Rugged Ridge 10,500 pounder pulled up to the scene and made easy work of extracting the sinking Jeep. Later, when Karl’s Nissan got hung up on a rock coming out of “Frog Hole”, the Rugged Ridge winch saved the day again. By the way, the “deep” side of Frog Hole is a bottomless pit of mud and ice that should be avoided by anyone except the off-road insane—ask me how I know.
Winches can prove invaluable when travelling off road—especially when it’s cold and wet outside and waiting around for help is certainly no fun. It is important to have solid extraction points easily accessible on the front and rear of your vehicle. Tow hooks and D-ring shackles mounted to the vehicles frame are good examples. It is also a good idea to carry a Recovery Gear kit when travelling off road. Rugged Ridge offers recovery kits for full-size vehicles and ATVs which include tow straps, tree trunk protectors, D-rings, snatch blocks, and gloves. Check out the complete line of recovery gear including winches and synthetic rope from Rugged Ridge.
