As much as possible, we have made an effort to go through the installation of new Rugged Ridge products on our own vehicle to get a better understanding of our products and a better handle on the difficulties or simplicity in installing them.  One of the products we just installed on our 2012 Orange Crush Rubicon is the Hurricane Flat Fender Flare. We have been looking forward to the introduction of this product because there is a tremendous market for this product and the design and pricing we knew were in the sweet spot to be a very popular product. The Omix design was inspired by earlier concepts and the 1941 Willys MA the flares are constructed of durable TPE, which creates a flexible yet very strong fender flare. Rugged Ridge uses the injection molding process for these fender flares, which produces a better fitting, more consistent flare.

We found the look of these flares to be superior to the competition. They provide 1-1.5" additional inches of tire coverage over the stock flares of our JK Rubicon but do not hang over the 35" tire. These flares will really be popular in states where tire coverage is an issue such as Pennsylvania and Massachusett.  Further, as you can see, the clearance the Hurricane Fender Flare provides is substantially better than the stock fender flare. By our measurements and pictures you can see that the rear Hurricane Fender Flare gives an additional 2.5" in the rear fender (stock 6" - Hurricane 8.25") and in the front the Hurricane Fender Flare adds more than an additional inch (stock 6.5" - Hurricane 7.75") and in the front the Hurricane Fender Flare adds more than an additional inch (stock 6.5" - Hurricane 7.75").

The installation was relatively simple and straightforward. The flares install using bolts in factory locations and some plastic push-in “Christmas tree” fasteners.  Only one hole per side was required drilling on the front fenders, and no modifications to the factory fender support are required.  Note the factory wheel-well liners are reused (not shown) and they do require trimming.
